KHG Board Elections Coming – May 31, 2014

On Saturday May 31, 2014, your community association Kentwood Home Guardians (“KHG”) will conduct its 2014 annual Member Meeting and Election of Directors.  This year, two of the five Director seats will be available.

We invite and encourage any interested Kentwood Home Guardian member to become a candidate to be elected to these Director positions.

A Candidate Forum, permitting all Candidates to address the public and to respond to questions submitted by the public to all candidates, will occur at the Board of Directors meeting on April 16, 2014 (place to be determined).

DESCRIPTION OF KHG DIRECTOR ACTIVITIES

KHG Directors set policy for and manage our community association of over 3,300 Kentwood homes, bounded generally by Sepulveda, Manchester, Georgetown and the Playa bluffs.  KHG was formed and operates under Declarations of Protective Restrictions  recorded against title to every Kentwood lot prior to its original sale to the public, which still bind every lot today. (Copies of the Declaration applicable to your lot can be obtained from KHG’s office.)  These recorded Declarations establish various rights and responsibilities of both KHG and its members. KHG is funded by annual assessments paid by members, limited by the Declarations to approximately $10 per lot.

Directors manage KHG in performing its duties under the Declarations, and in acting as a resource and “voice” for its members relative to community issues. For example, in just the last six months the current Board of Directors has (among other projects) partnered on the Sepulveda sidewalk improvement project, initiated a Safety & Security Committee to respond to increasing crime in the area, and formally pursued community-based concerns with LMU and the developers of two proposed new projects impacting our community. KHG’s Operations Manager Suzann Rogers has also assisted homeowners with various community problems, particularly through contacts with City offices and resources.

Directors serve a two-year term, and may be re-elected to one additional term. Directors attend Board meetings, generally in the early evenings of the third Wednesday of each month. Additional time commitments arise from projects undertaken by the Board. Directors are unpaid volunteers, who are providing a service to help their local community be a better place to live.

CALL FOR ELECTION INSPECTORS AND ASSISTANTS

KHG is also calling for volunteers to help with the election, both to set up and manage the voting on the day of the election (Saturday May 31, 2014), and to process ballots and proxies submitted prior to the election. Anyone wishing to participate is invited to call KHG Operations Manager Suzann Rogers at (310) 670-5111.

Election Inspectors and assistants must be KHG members, and may not be current Board members or Candidates, nor related to current Board members or Candidates.
